Our office sees the benefits in the advancement of technology. In order for a dentist to maintain his or her license, there is a mandatory 50 units of continuing education over a two year period that needs to be maintained and checked upon relicensing. This keeps us current on new products and techniques available. Not all things that are NEW and the Latest are the best options out there and may not have the best prognosis.
We utilize computers in our operatories that allow full charting and links with a software program (Dicom) that allows image manipulation from whitening to most esthetic options that are available.
Lasers. Currently our office doesn't offer the laser technology. This is primarily due to the fact that I have yet to see the benefits warrant the cost of the units. The best application that the laser is used for is periodontal therapy. The lasers application of hard tissue (i.e tooth or bone) has yet to be proven more effective and time consuming as well as less uncomfortable then the conventional methods used.
Laser Bleaching----
I want it and I want it now!! There is something to say for the "laser" bleaching methods that are available on the market today. The reality is that there is a limit to the results of tooth whitening or bleaching. The benefits of the light or "laser" bleaching is just that, immediate gratification. Some systems such as the Zoom 2 method still require home bleaching even after the office beaching and with the added chair time, the cost is substantially more. We are presently looking into the BriteSmile system to offer you an option but my belief is that if you can wear the trays at night for at least seven days, your end results will be the same and we can offer it at alot less expensive method.
As of April 2007, we have submitted an application for the Brite Smile system to be available in our office. The estimated cost at this time is approximately $500.00. We are looking forward to making this available to you by July, 2007
